Mayor Robert Hazelaar

As Mayor of the Town of Redcliff, I would like to welcome you to the Town's website and provide you with some information about my family, our community and myself.

I moved to Redcliff when I was four and have lived here ever since. I am a journeyman carpenter but in the early 80's, when construction died off, I went into the family greenhouse business and have been doing that for the past 24 years. I am 51 years old, married to Dinah for 31 years and have three children: Jennifer, Branden, and Chantel and a grand son Hunter. I have been the Mayor of Redcliff for the past 2 years and was a Councilor nine years before that.

In the last ten years Redcliff has done very well - we have  sold over 100 acres of serviced commercial land. We have also sold all of our residential lots in Riverview phases 1, 2 and 3; Kipling phases 1 and 2, and our last subdivision Westside with 310 total lots being sold. The Town of Redcliff is currently developing Eastside Phase 1 with 88 lots which are now available in 2010. We are also in the process of developing more commercial land north of town.

In 1996 our population was 4,104 and the 2006 census indicated our population had grown to 5,096.

Redcliff receives one of the highest numbers of daylight hours in all of Canada when combined with the less expensive gas in the past, resulted in the large number of greenhouses located in Town. Recently our strongest growth has been in the oil and gas sector because of reasonable land prices, large lots and good access to the No. 1 Highway.

Recreation facilities in Redcliff are first rate and include an indoor ice arena, aquatic centre, ball diamond complex, tennis court, BMX track, and soccer and football field. In addition the Town has an 18-hole golf course and a three sheet curling rink. The Town also has a Scout Hall and a senior’s Drop in Centre. Our museum is a gem. The municipal campground has electrical sites, with water and a sani-station as well as a new shower/washroom facility in the Campground. Our trail system offers some of the most spectacular views of the South Saskatchewan River Valley and the sunsets can be breathtaking. The most recent addition to the Town Hall is an historical brick sculpture mural which was designed and built by the artist James Marshall. The mural was the Town of Redcliff Alberta Centennial project and portrays significant events, businesses and people from the Town of Redcliff's rich history.

Redcliff Council consists of Councillors Chere Brown, Cathy Crozier, Dwight Kilpatrick, Ernie Reimer, Eric Solberg and Jim Steinke in addition to myself as Mayor.

It is this Council's intention to continue with our growth and make Redcliff a safe, affordable and desirable community to live and work in
